Tekalign Gutu Sakketa

Tekalign Gutu Sakketa is a Researcher Economist at the German Institute of Development and Suatainability (IDOS) and Senior Fellow at the Center for Development Research (ZEF) of Bonn University. He is also the 2021 Structural Transformation of African Agriculture and Rural Spaces (STAARS) fellow affiliated with Cornell University, USA. He holds a Ph.D. in Agricultural Economics from the University of Bonn, Germany. Tekalign holds two MSc degrees: Globalization and Development from the University of Antwerp, Belgium, and Agricultural Economics from Haramaya University, Ethiopia. With a strong background in quantitative analysis such as applied econometrics, he works on a range of development issues: climate change; conflict and livelihoods; the impact of conflict on firm performance in SSA; the role of weather insurance in risk management in developing countries; agricultural markets; rural-urban linkages; inclusive growth and social cohesion; and food and nutrition security. He has published in the Journal of Development Studies; IZA Journal of Labor Economics; World Development Perspectives; Journal of Maternal and Child Nutrition; Journal of International Development, among others. He has rich experience in designing, supervising, collecting, and analyzing extensive longitudinal household survey data in developing countries.
